We love you Hazel (1921 – 2023)
“Hurricane” Hazel in all her 101 years has always been “people-driven” and for those of us with MICBA a “strong, fearless and sometimes indiscriminate leader we have had the privilege of getting to know over 30 years ago.
An integral part of MICBA, Hazel was instrumental in helping to create what MICBA is today, helping us from our vision on paper to the first shovel in the ground and through all levels of government.
Through the years the only title more cherished and honoured above that of MICBA’s Honourary Patron, was that of “Dear Friend”. She not only became a one of the driving forces in assisting to make MICBA’s dreams become a reality, she was part of the fabric, and always first to participate in celebrating with us.
Hazel was never lost for words, and never hesitant to speak on behalf of the citizens and the community she represented. In her twelve terms and 36 years this “people’s mayor” of Mississauga leaves behind a legacy unlike any other in Canada’s seventh-largest city.
“Hurricane Hazel”, Her Worship, former Mayor of this great City of Mississauga, mother and friend, you will always be in our hearts forever and never forgotten.
Thank you Hazel!
